St George Island, FL 2007

My daughter rents this beach house every year on St George Island, FL. Holly (my sweetheart) and I joined her and a couple other friends for a two week stay. While I left for 5 days to attend the Florida Safari with my friend Chris, the others stayed and enjoyed this "undeveloped" island. The first picture is sunrise from the deck on the East side of the beach home.
The second picture is me and the love of my life on the screened porch of the beach house enjoying a breeze off the Gulf of Mexico.
Third is Chris and I as we bicycled across the off St George Island on the Appalachicola Bridge (4.5 miles long) on the way to Appalachacola, FL. Enjoyed the largest sundae I have ever eaten at a neat Ice Cream Soda Fountain old time store.
Next is my sweetie showing off the Lady Bug I bought her at the ice cream store, open it up and the legs wiggle like it's alive!
Finally, the last picture is sunset looking West from the street in front of the beach house. Really a great week, a great island, nice shells, blue/green water and pink sand.

Florida Safari 2007

This was my 6th year, I think to attend this great event, The Florida Safari bicycle ride. Three days in Live Oak, FL and then we cycle to Cherry Lake (North of Madison FL) for this six day event. People from as far as Seattle and Canada come to enjoy this great ride every year. Pictured first is the mass start on Saturday, April 21st. Next are Black Eyed Susan's along the route we cycled one day. Then, the crowd on Sunday evening sitting under the shade of a large Live Oak tree, drinking draft beer, listening to a great band, eating boiled corn on the cob dipped in butter (The corn was in the cooler in the foreground after being boiled, husk on and in a large cast iron vat). After eating a lot of corn, we still had a wonderful dinner.
If you ever want to do a great bicycle ride, check out the Florida Freewheelers web site and navigate to Florida Safari. Enrollment is limited due to it's popularity and space available at Cherry Lake.

Coastal Georgia Tour

These pictures were taken last week while I was leading my Coastal Georgia Tour with participants from Ohio and Savannah. One of the most beautiful streets in Savannah is Washington Avenue (1st picture) in Ardsley Park. The azaleas and wisteria were blooming and do not show too well in this photo, but use your imagination as you ride your bicycle down the "tunnel of live oak limbs"! While we were having a seafood lunch at Tubby's Tank House in Thunderbolt, GA, a township inside the Savannah area and on the inter coastal waterway, a fisherman arrived and sold his days catch of Wahoo fish to Tubby's, (2nd picture) and they weighed his catch on scales in the front entrance besides the porch where we were eating. The children at the next table were exclaiming the word "gross!" as each fish was hung on the scales by it's eyeball being pierced by a hook, as shown. One day we rode 20 miles in the Landings (a gated community in Savannah) then departed to ride on Tybee Island, But before reaching Tybee, we visited Fort Pulaski and in the moat (3rd picture) was this 5 foot alligator swimming merrily along. We had great weather for this tour and later departed for Jekyll island where my friends fell in love with this "Georgia's Jewel"
