St George Island Florida

It's me! Was halfway across the 5 mile bridge from the mainland to St George Island returning to the island when I made this self portrait. My grandson and myself did this bridge out and back last week, as he is fit as a member of US Army 82nd Airborne, needless to say he finished crossing over and back long before this 78 year old man, who just thinks he is fit! Beautiful view from all along this bridge, boats fishing, people fishing from the old bridge alongside this new bridge, nice 8' wide shoulder, fish jumping and nice blue/green water, as well as, occasional pelicans flying nearby soaring faster then I could ride!

St George Island, Florida

Took one of my event canopy's and erected it on the beach in front of the beach house for shade. Look just beyond the canopy at the very large sand castle Preston, Daniel and a friend of Preston built. In the next photo, after with standing and dodging the tide from Sunday until around 2:00pm Friday, it finally succumbed to the tide.
Daniel, my grandson and Ellen and me at the Owl Cafe in Apalachcola, Florida on the mainland from St George Island. The food here was really good, as Ellen took me here to dinner the previous night for my Father's Day present for this year. Daniel pictured here is with the 82nd Airborne and has just been reassigned to recruiting duty in Cookeville, TN which he will report after his current furlough.

St George Island, Florida

From top to bottom: My daughter Ellen and Emma her grandaughter (and my first great grandaughter); Lynn (Emma's Mother) and Preston (Emma's Father)who is my grand-daughter with her husband; and, the best of all photos, Emma and me with Emma on her Trek tricycle with me in my bike togs in front of a much larger Trek.

St George Island, Florida

The Uncommon Florida as it states on the sign is really true. Not as commercialized as most islands on the coast of Florida, this island is like it used to be. One scene in these pictures shows the beach while the other is the beach house my daughter rents every year and is so kind to invite me to join she and her family. But, it has been discovered by people all over and that shows in the million dollar prices for any beach front property on the island!

Jekyll Island Challenge 2006

Vicki and some of my CBTC friends who came to Darien to join the 106 persons who were on the Jekyll Island Challenge Saturday morning ride from Darien, GA to Sapelo Island, GA visitors Center where everyone took a break, consumed a lot of Gatorade and water I supplied and walked through the exhibits in the Welcome Center of this Historic Island. No Sunday ride pictures were taken as I had no time from a very busy day implementing rides of 25, 50, 63 and 100 miles on a hot day. This years bicycle ride was the best even though there were 4 other competing rides in Jacksonville, Atlanta and the famous assault on Mt Mitchell run by my friend John Bryant.
